Use this program to create a totals report for compensating (comp) tax paid. Totals may then be used in creating the Combined Excise Tax Return that must be submitted to the Washington Department of Revenue. This document itemizes the excise taxes being paid to the state, either as sales tax or for disbursement to other taxing entities. The taxes are broken out by type of tax, location code, and local rate. The Combined Excise Tax Return is submitted monthly, quarterly, or at some other time interval.
A list of exceptions are automatically appended to the Comp Tax Reporting Totals. Exceptions are from vendor invoices where an incorrect tax rate was used to calculate the comp tax due. (An exception report may also be created by checking the "Run Exception Report" option in Comp Tax Status Report or Comp Tax Generated Invoice Report.)
A tax district is a defined jurisdictional area within which a certain aggregate of tax rates is applicable to purchases of taxable goods and services. The Department of Revenue maintains a list of jurisdictional areas grouped by county, with location code numbers assigned to each area. These location codes may be used by a district in setting up its tax districts for use in the calculation of comp tax, or the district may define its own tax districts based upon the location of its buildings within the state-defined jurisdictional areas.
A tax type is a component of the aggregate of taxes due to state and local authorities. Local tax is a component of the aggregate of taxes due to state and local authorities. A local tax has been assessed by a local entity and is distributed by the Department of Revenue to that entity.
This program reports on comp tax invoices that have been paid and posted; that is, they have a status of "History".
