State unemployment reporting and taxation are mandatory in Washington. Unemployment tax is paid by the employer to the state or to a self-insurance unemployment pool. Unemployment taxes are payable on the annual taxable wage base established by the state or pool. Cumulative unemployment wages are reset to zero each calendar year. When the unemployment wage accumulator is reset to zero, taxes are again assessed. Tax rates are set by the state or by the unemployment pool administration.

Use this process for the tax type of UC, or Unemployment Compensation. You may set rates and  taxable wage base for each of your unemployment plans. Unemployment Compensation Wage Rates may be updated only at the district level. Users may also view, report, or download rates to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
