1 Overview

The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Report is required by OSPI and due in December.  Federal and state special education regulations require that school districts provide information regarding the numbers and types of special education students by placement option within the district’s range of alternative placements. The data shows the extent that special education students participate in regular education programs. This report is based on a student’s regular school day.

The report is available in three versions: Summary, Detail, and Exception. The Summary report is divided into two sections:

This section reports unduplicated counts of all special education students ages 6-21 by education placements (LRE codes 01-03, 08, 28-31) and categorized into the following subsections:

This section reports unduplicated counts of all special education students ages 3 to 5 by education placements (LRE codes 13, 15, 16, 32-36) and categorized into the following subsections:

Age, Gender  and LEP Status

Ethnicity/Race

Disability Condition

The total number of students on the LRE reports must match the total number of students ages 3 to 21 reported in the IDEA, Part B child count.
